PGR: Research data and your e-thesis (IN-PERSON)

This course is intended for PGR students at any stage of their study.

It will explain the concept of research data, defining what is meant by data. Research data usually associated with quantitative data e.g. tables, charts, figures, stats, numbers, especially large sets of metrics/numbers. But research data can be qualitative too, such as reflective diaries, photos, text, interview transcripts, focus groups, digital data etc. Note that almost every thesis will have important data, but researchers may not recognise it as data. Sometimes it may be called primary sources or others may feel the data is so qualitative that they think they don’t have any “data.”

Did you know that when you share your research data you increase your citation, your visibility, and the impact of your research? It can also lead to collaboration opportunities and your research can find itself in new contexts. Good things come from sharing your data. Note also that certain funders which insist that you must share your data.

This is an essential course if you want to discover what your “research data” is from your thesis and how to share it. If you plan to share your data, what can be shared? What is the best repository to use to share this data? Should you embargo your data, redact it, impose access controls on your data?

This course is aimed primarily at all PGR students.  This course is however, only offered ONCE in semester 1, 2024. Please book early to secure a place.

Please login to MyFuture to book a place. Training will be delivered IN PERSON.
